On Monday 17th May sixteen of our students, from all over the school, attended our first Eco-Schools Committee meeting.  The Acorn Eco Warriors, as they will be known, were full of wonderful ideas and keen to make positive changes around the school in order to make it eco-friendlier and more sustainable.

Eco-Schools is a charity that is passionate about engaging young people in environmental education and action. They do this by providing a seven-step framework that guides, empowers and motivates pupils to drive change and improve environmental awareness in their school, local community and beyond.

Once the Acorn Eco Warriors have completed the seven-step process the school can apply for Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation, which recognises, rewards and celebrates the environmental achievements of our young people.

Eco-Schools was founded in 1994, operates in 67 countries and engages 19.5 million young people globally. This makes Eco-Schools the largest educational programme on the planet. It will provide fantastic opportunities for our students to build skills, take pride in their surroundings, learn about their planet and be the driving force for positive change locally and globally.  I very much look forward to reporting further developments and achievements of our warriors in the near future.
